Our business model is re-establishing the importance of teaching by investing in faculty and inverting the current model of for-profit and not-for-profit education.
How can we do that?
We remain administratively streamlined and we unlock the potential of the technology available to us to ensure that 1) faculty and writing experts are paid more than most other schools and services, and 2) students are given an affordable option.
Whom do we hire?
RK March American Writing hires two types of contractors: online faculty to teach our writing courses and writers/editors to work in our online writing center.
What kind of faculty are we looking for?
Since we compensate our faculty well, we can afford to take the very best. Our faculty have years of experience in their respective fields; they have a Ph.D.; they have experience teaching online, and ideally, they have experience teaching ESL. They are expert teachers and writers at the “top of their game.”
Required
1) A Ph.D. from an accredited university (any field).
2) 10 years teaching experience
3) Experience teaching online and as part of a remote team.
Preferable
1) Experience designing and using Google Classrooms
2) ESL experience
3) A healthy publication record in your field.
What are the responsibilities?
All classes are taught online using Google Classrooms and run four weeks in length. Although all the courses have content provided, the instructor is welcome to modify or create additional content as needed. Each course has certain required parameters that need to be kept consistent.
Each class has a weekly assignment and one final written assignment that need faculty feedback. Students have the weekly option to participate in a written discussion thread or attend a weekly one hour video webinar with their instructor. The video webinar comprises a live lecture followed by a question and answer period. It is recorded for students who aren’t able to participate. Some consideration must be given to the varying time zones of our diverse worldwide student body.
Faculty must have reliable high-speed Internet.
How much are faculty paid?
For a four week, 20 student section faculty are paid $2,000. Employees are taxed as 1099 contractors. We are not able to offer full-time faculty positions although it is possible to teach more than one section at a time.
What are we looking for in American writing experts?
RK March American Writing pays experienced writers and editors to offer writing support to an international audience who need help with various daily projects.
Required
1.) Bachelor’s degree in English or related field.
2.) Five plus years of experience as a writer or editor.
3.) Based in the U.S.A
4.) Native English speaker and writer.
Preferable
1.) Advanced degree in English or Writing.
2.) Publication record.
3.) Expert in grammar and style.
What are the responsibilities?
American writing experts must have access to a computer and have high-speed internet. Assignments are billed in 15 minute increments and have a 24 hour turnaround window. Writing experts are responsible for logging accurate billable hours.
Work with clients is conducted through email and Google docs. No video sessions are required.
How much are writing experts paid?
Writing experts are taxed as 1099 contractors and paid based on hourly work, per month. An ideal month could be up to 100 hours. Since we negotiate each agreement separately with our clients, prices will vary slightly.
